42 – The Answer to Almost Everything

The situation is actually quite clear: the North Pole is in the north and the South Pole is in the south. And the compass needle always points north. More precisely, it points to the magnetic North Pole, a point on Earth not far from the geographic North Pole. But what if that doesn't necessarily have to stay that way? The magnetic North Pole is currently shifting. And it's moving so fast that the Earth's magnetic field could eventually reverse: the North Pole would become the South Pole and vice versa. Of course, this won't happen overnight, but if the Earth's magnetic field changes that much, will animals and humans lose their sense of direction?
