What if disasters didn't just kill and cause suffering? What if disasters were actually helpful in the end? After all, we survived the last major ice age, while many large vertebrates did not. And then there was the plague—half of Europe died in a very short time, but the other half survived. World War II: over 60 million dead. Humanity not only survived all of this, but also continued to evolve. But do disasters have anything to do with this? And if so, what?
