Nach der Kohle

Environment/Short Film, Germany 2023

Keyenberg - a village in Erkelenz which, along with four other villages, was to be dug up by RWE for coal mining. Now the five villages are allowed to stay after all. Apart from around 100 people, however, the remaining residents have already left the village. Some of them report how they had to live for years with the fear of being resettled and with the noise of the excavators moving in. They had to watch their homes die. This documentary was filmed by young people as part of a project by the Demokratiewerkstatt Rheinisches Revier and shows a multi-layered view of the consequences of coal mining and the current situation in the villages.
